AMSTERDAM POLICY PRIZE -APP 2022

Click here to check out the winning policy proposals at APP 2022

Established in 2021, the APP, the prestigious policy competition where student teams come together to compete against each other, was hosted again by the EUH Amsterdam this year 2022.

The days-long event was concluded with new friendships, enhancement of academic skills, and, of course, the top three best policy proposals for a greener and more sustainable city!

We would like to give a big heartfelt 'thank you' to all the volunteers, the APP committee, and the EUH board! Without their passion, dedication, and painstaking efforts, the APP would have not been such a smashing success! And a big 'thank you' to all those who participated. It is your enthusiasm that made APP memorable and worth continuing! So, THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE BEEN WITH US THROUGH THIS YEAR'S APP! See you next year!

The Theme of APP 2022

The theme APP 2022 is ‘Urban Development and Sustainability.’ The
particular policy issue that participants research and build
innovative solutions for is ‘Sustainable Tourism in Amsterdam.’ Due to
the limited space within Amsterdam and the severe ongoing housing
crisis, the issue of future urban development is highly relevant. Through
the ‘Comprehensive Vision Amsterdam 2050’ initiative, the city’s
municipality is seeking to expand the existing living space and cultural
hubs in order to develop a more multi-centered and accessible
environment. A strong emphasis is put on sustainability throughout the
project, as it is normally the case in the Netherlands, and one of the
proposed goals is a ‘climate-resilient environment’ for residents.
Due to the City Council’s vision for the city and the gravity of global
warming, urban development has to be done in a sustainable manner
in order to ensure well-being at local, national, and international levels.
Thus, this edition of the Amsterdam Policy Prize centers on the different
possibilities for sustainable urban development – with a focus on
rendering tourism sustainable. Participants will be encouraged to come
up with new, feasible policies which encourage a sustainable approach
to improving the city’s tourism infrastructure, while considering its
implications on several local actors such as Amsterdam-located
businesses.
